David Draisen

Area 7

David Draisen was born in Anderson and attended Anderson public schools. He is a Medical Technologist working part time for ANMED Family Medicine and part time for Pediatric Associates, ANMED Community Clinic, and Elberton Memorial Hospital in Elberton, Ga. He has a BS in Financial Management from Clemson and enjoys Clemson Sports, especially football.

Mr. Draisen is Treasurer for the Temple B'Nai Israel. He  and his wife, Andrea, are training for a half marathon to be run in Tybee Island in February, with all of the proceeds to benefit the Cancer Association of Anderson.

Mr. Draisen served as an advocate for Anderson School District Five in 2003. He states that he learned at that time that there was conflict between his district and the County Board. After being asked by one of the trustees to run for a seat on the county board and after a great deal of consideration, he decided to do so and was elected. He then went to work attending workshops and conventions in order to better understand school finance.

Mr. Draisen believes that, while the county board has many responsibilities, the most important is representing taxpayers by studying all five districts’ budgets to make sure that money is being spent wisely. The board cooperates with the Treasurer and Auditor to provide for school funding.

Another responsibility of the county board is to provide mental health counselors to help students in four of the five districts, free to the students in need. Mr. Draisen  serves as committee chairman for this group.  He also serves as secretary to the Anderson County Board of Education.

While Mr. Draisen acknowledges that the Anderson County Board of Education plays an important role in the county as they help manage the Alternative School, appoint various board members to fill vacancies until the next general election and provide a freezer and warehouse at no charge to the districts when necessary, he believes that, in light of the recent change in property taxes, that the role of the county board will be even more important in that the board will be able to represent all of the districts in Anderson County to the delegation on all financing matters.
